Job description

The group Psychology, Health and Technology (PHT) at the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences is involved in research and education with regard to the use of technologies to support health and wellbeing. We develop, evaluate and implement theory-based interventions to influence behaviour, using value sensitive and persuasive technologies (web-based, mobile, gaming etc.). We work both from a psychology and an engineering perspective and cooperate with other scientific disciplines, based on the Vision 2030 of the University of Twente. We are looking for two enthusiastic assistant professors in the area of mental health and technology.

The challenge

Technology plays an increasingly important role in mental health care. The use of eHealth, mHealth, sensing and virtual reality technologies holds important promises to bring interventions closer to the everyday life of clients. At the same time, they bring along new types of data, for example in bio sensing, ecological momentary assessment, logdata, and email guidance. These data ask for new methodologies, including data mining, affective computing, and text mining.

In this position, we invite you to contribute to education and research in this exciting new field. As a teacher, you will contribute actively to modules in the Bachelor Psychology and to courses in the Master-track Positive Clinical Psychology and Technology. Furthermore we expect you to supervise Bachelor and Master theses. In your research, you contribute to the interdisciplinary research domain ‘health, well-being and technology’ in both the faculty Behavioral, Management, and Social Sciences and the university-wide TechMed Centre. You will focus on the design of engaging technologies to promote mental health and well-being and/or the use of technology in advancing research on change processes in such interventions. You will carry out research in close cooperation with (regional) mental health care institutes. Applying for research grants, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and PhD supervision belong to your tasks.

Profile

Candidates we seek

  • show vision and results-oriented drive (seeing opportunities and possibilities, showing ambition);
  • hold a PhD degree preferably in (positive) clinical psychology;
  • have experience in design and research in innovative technologies in mental health care;
  • have experience in research, which is apparent from publications in reputable academic journals, presentations in international scientific conferences, and other academic activities;
  • conduct (fundamental and applied) research within a multidisciplinary environment;
  • are interdisciplinary team workers, collaborating with scholars from different backgrounds in social sciences and technology;
  • have teaching experience (both lecturing and tutoring);
  • possess good communication skills and an excellent command of English and good command of Dutch is preferable.
  • possess a (equivalent of) University Teaching Qualification certificate, or be willing to obtain this, and have a real passion for, and the ambition to become a creative and effective teacher.

We offer

We offer an appointment (0,8 fte) for two years with the prospect of a tenured position after a positive evaluation. The starting salary, depending on your experience, ranges between € 3.746 to € 5.127 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile Assistant Professor. In addition, the University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions (8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, solid pension scheme, sabbatical leave, professional and personal development programs including facilities in acquiring an University Teaching Qualification, etc.).
