Organisation

TNW Faculty (Faculty of Science & Technology)

The Faculty of Science & Technology (Technische Natuurwetenschappen, TNW) engages some 700 staff members and 2000 students in education and research on the cutting edge of chemical technology, applied physics and biomedical technology. Our fields of application include sustainable energy, process technology and materials science, nanotechnology and technical medicine. As part of a people-first tech university that aims to shape society, individuals and connections, our faculty works together intensively with industrial partners and researchers in the Netherlands and abroad, and conducts extensive research for external commissioning parties and funders. Our research has a high profile both in the Netherlands and internationally and is strengthened by the many young researchers working on innovative projects with as doctoral candidates and post-docs. It has been accommodated in three multidisciplinary UT research institutes: Mesa+ Institute, TechMed Centre and Digital Society Institute.

As an employer, the TNW Faculty offers jobs that matter. We equip you as a staff member to shape new opportunities both for yourself and for our society. With our Faculty, you will be part of a leading tech university that is changing our world for the better. We offer an open, inclusive and entrepreneurial climate, in which we encourage you to make healthy choices, for example, with our flexible, customisable conditions.

Job description

The performance of thin film composite membranes for nanofiltration of aqueous solutions in can be greatly affected by the presence of, traces of, organic molecules. The presence of these solutes is known to potentially cause delamination of layers.

Profile

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher (one year contract) who will investigate in detail the physical processes underlying delamination processes in nanofiltration membranes that are triggered by the mutual presence of the distinct molecules, both in a theoretical and an experimental context. We are looking for a candidate that has obtained a doctoral degree in a physical chemistry related field, preferably in surface science; the degree should generally not be older than four years. In particular, experience with thermodynamic descriptions of multicomponent systems and interfacial interactions is considered an advantage. As the position requires significant communication tasks, good command of the English language, especially written English, is essential.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work within the multidisciplinary team of researchers within the Membrane Science and Technology Cluster of the University of Twente.

We offer

You will be appointed on a fulltime position for one year, within a very stimulating scientific environment. The university offers a dynamic ecosystem with enthusiastic colleagues.

  • Gross salary: ranging from € 3.353 to € 4.402 per month, depending on your background, relevant experience and qualifications, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities.
  • A stimulating work environment in a recognized Centre of Excellence for osteoarthritis research.
  • A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%;
  • A solid pension scheme;
  • Minimum of 29 holidays per year in case of full-time employment;
  • Professional and personal development programs;
  • A high degree of responsibility and independence, while collaborating with close colleagues, researchers and other university staff is strongly encouraged;
  • We strive for diversity and fairness in hiring.
